The United Communities Credit Union and its community partners distributed about 12-thousand pounds of food to food banks in Huron and Perth County yesterday.
United President Jim Lynne says this is the fourth year for their Farms to Food Banks program. Some of the food is bought from local farmers and some is donated by the farmers.
Lynne credits his staff for starting the program and they do it at this time of year because they believe the need is the greatest in the few months after Christmas.
The Farms to Foodbanks program was started five years ago in Essex County and since that time in Essex, Huron and Perth has contributed 262-thousand dollars worth of food or 451-thousand pounds of food.
The food provided yesterday included apples, milk, meat and was picked up by local food banks in the United Communities Credit Union in Clinton.
